Torx

This is the name of a six-arm cut in the work part of screwdrivers and screwdriver bits. This cut type, patented in 1967, prevents the screwdriver from sliding out from the cuts in the screw's head, which ensures proper fixing force. Torx type screws are used commonly in vehicles and electronics.

A power generator

A power generator is a tool that is commonly used at various construction sites. The principle of its operation is very simple: an internal combustion engine drives a synchronous generator that produces electric current. Thus, a power generator can provide the electricity needed to power up tools, machines, and equipment in off-grid locations.

AERATION

An important treatment for your lawn. Aeration is a process of air admission to soil by making slots or gaps. Aeration positively influences the volume of grass roots and contributes to the levelling of turf. The process is performed using special tools – aerators, which are available in mechanical and manual versions.

Dilatation

A slot or gap that enables free shrinkage, expansion and deformation of materials. An example of dilatation may include a gap between floorboards and walls. It enables free movement of the wood material and eliminates the risk of material warpage.

Kotva

LED diode

LED stands for light-emitting diode or electroluminescent diode. Using the radiative recombination phenomenon, they emit visible, ultraviolet and infrared light. LED diodes are durable, power-saving and small, therefore they are applied in more and more solutions. They can be found in various types of electronic appliances – from TV-sets, phone displays and monitors to efficient workshop torches.

Level (or spirit level)

A measuring tool using gravity to determine the orientation of planes. The level is determined by an air bubble in a tube (see level tube) or a laser beam (laser levels). The tool is used in a great number of constructing and decorating works.

Level tube

An element of a level (see level) responsible for the determination of the horizontal plane. It can be in the cylindrical or round shape (a box type). It determines the horizontal plane by means of an air bubble trapped in a sealed tube that is filled with a liquid.

Machining

Or machine cutting, is one of the most popular working method for wood, metal and plastics. The machining consists in a controlled surface material removal process. In general, the following two machining types can be found: machining (milling, turning, drilling, planing) and abrasive machining (grinding, polishing, smoothing).

Milling cutter

A cutting tool used in milling machines. It is used for making (cutting) grooves of different shapes in materials such as wood, metal , plastics. The raw materials for producing milling cutters usually include wear and high temperature resistant high-speed steel (HSS).

Phillips

This is the name of one of the most popular type of screwdrivers. Phillips screwdrivers were popularized in the early 20th century by Henry F. Phillips. Currently, Phillips type screwdrivers and screws are immensely popular in all sectors of the industry. Their cruciform profile causes the screwdriver to slide out of the socket in the screw once an appropriate force has been reached, which prevents excessive tightening of the connection.

Pliers

A hand tool consisting of two clipping jaws, used for gripping and holding objects. Depending on their purpose, there are various types, such as universal, long nose pliers, flat nose pliers, round nose pliers.

POLYETHYLENE

is a special chemical compound characterized by low steam permeability, resistance to acids, salts, low temperature, and hard weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or wind. Polyethylene is used to make special membranes, pipes, sails, and skis. TOPEX offers durable polyethylene tarpaulins.

RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICE

and ground-fault breaker are common names for a differential switch. This type of electrical protection is currently the most common solution and replaces the obsolete fuses. The main advantage of the device is that it automatically breaks the electrical circuit in the event of an overload. This prevents electrical shock, damage to electrical equipment, and even fire caused by defective equipment.

Riveting

A popular method for fastening metal construction elements. The fastening is made by means of rivets in the form of a cylindrical shaft with a head on one end using a riveting machine (see riveting machine). It is one of the oldest methods for creating a permanent connection between metal elements.

Riveting machine

A hand tool used for riveting (see riveting).

ROOF GIRDER

The main component of a roof structure. A horizontal or diagonal beam used to uniformly transfer the weight of a roof onto main load-carrying supports of a building (walls or pillars).

Screwdriver

A basic hand tool for screwing and unscrewing bolts. It consists of a handle that seats a metal rod ended with a flat sharp tip adapted to a groove in the head of a screw or bolt.

Solder

Solder is a fusable metal (or metal alloy) used to join together metal workpieces. Two solder types can be found – tin/lead solder, also called soft solders with a melting point ranging from 175 to 325°C, and hard solders, which melt above 600°C. Irrespectively of the type, a melting point of a solder must always be lower than a melting point of joined workpieces.

Soldering

A popular method of joining metal materials. Widely used in electronics or hydraulic, it involves joining metal elements by means of an adhesive (solder), which features lower melting temperature than the materials joined by that adhesive. Two types of soldering can be distinguished: soft soldering and hard soldering, otherwise referred to as brazing. Soft soldering is performed at a temperature lower than 450 °C, while hard soldering or brazing involves higher temperatures.

SPLINE

Spline is a special design of wrenches and sockets. Spline sockets are 12-angular ones, which enables their use with five most popular types of bolts: square, hexagonal, dodecagonal, Torx, and Spline. They also work very well with bolts with worn heads. Thanks to their high versatility, they enable reducing the number of tools needed in a workshop.

Stillson

It is a customary name for a pipe wrench. The name of the tool comes from the name of its inventor – Daniel C. Stillson. In 1869, Stillson patented the design based on an adjustable and moving jaw, which can be operated on pipes and fittings of various sizes. Owing to its versatility, the solution is commonly used to this day.

VERNIER

An element of a measuring mechanism in an analogue slide caliper. It is an auxiliary scale used to take a measurement of a fractional part of a value in the main scale. Invented in 1631 by a French mathematician, Pierre Vernier, it considerably increases measurement precision of a slide caliper.
